We've got a serious nerd-on for unique and unusual horror collectibles, and we're pretty sure a lot of you reading this share that obsession. We're not only here to say it's perfectly normal to feel this way (who's to say what's “normal” anyway?), but we're gonna feed your hunger with this new feature series focusing on horror-loving artists and entrepreneurs who set out to make their very own toys, statues, action figures and other oddities.

To kick things off, we're putting the spotlight on Michigan-based artist Gabe LaPeer and his “Homemade Horror” Facebook page. Gabe's mini-bio describes him as a sculptor, graphic designer and illustrator who set up Homemade Horror as a place to showcase his custom designs, sculptures and action figures “with a slant towards the dark and gruesome.” Sounds good to us, so let's begin today with one of his most inventive genre-bending art series, “Karbonite Killers.” As the saying goes, it's exactly what you think it is: famous horror movie villains encased, Han Solo-style, in replica carbonite coffins inspired by the Star Wars saga.

The roughly 9x12" resin-cast killers have all been “frozen” with their weapons and other items intact, and so far include Michael Myers with a butcher knife and Jack-O-Lantern, Jason Voorhees with his machete and a ripped-out human heart, Freddy Krueger with his razor-glove and hat, and Leatherface with his chainsaw and hammer.

LaPeer does sell many of his creations, so if you want to find out what he's got available, you can contact him through his “Homemade Horror” Facebook page. We'll be revisiting his collection soon, so stay tuned!
