UPDATE: Shane Black clarifies via Collider that this will actually be a sequel, not a reboot/remake:

“Why start over, when you’ve all this rich mythology yet to mine?”  Black said he doesn’t like reboots generally, but can “really get behind inventive sequels”, noting that he likes “the idea of expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button.”
Original Post:

The Predator is next in line to go through the Hollywood recycling program. Now, the knee-jerk reaction is to hate this idea but there is a bit of a silver lining, this won’t be handled by a couple of hacks.  Attached to the remake sequel are Shane Black and Fred Dekker.

Black is best known for his work on Lethal Weapon, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and Iron Man 3.  He was actually approached to re-write the original scripted back in 1986 but turned the job down.  Even though he passed on the re-write, he did appear in the film as Hawkins.  Black will be directing as well as writing the treatment for the project.

Scripting duties will be handled by Dekker (Night of the Creeps).  The two had previously teamed up on another 80s classic, The Monster Squad.

There is currently no release date set.
