These Eerie Metal Sculptures Are Cast From Real Anthills

Remember our story last month about that gigantic alien landscape revealed by a team of researchers who poured concrete into an abandoned ant colony? (If you missed it, take a look here.) How would you like to own a creepy work of genuine anthill art for your home?

It's now possible, thanks to an anonymous US artist who creates incredibly intricate and surreal metal sculptures by pouring molten aluminum or zinc into the abandoned tunnels left by carpenter and fire ants. Once formed, the twisted, branching and zig-zagging shapes (which can reach heights of 18 inches or more) are mounted on wooden bases, and the larger ones are usually positioned topside-down, which makes them resemble eerie snow-covered trees... so they're kind of festive, in a slightly creepy way.
